A recent Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report alleges that Musk’s erratic behavior may be linked to drug abuse, including LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, and psychedelic mushrooms, as per unnamed sources close to or within Musk’s inner circle.

While Musk’s public consumption of marijuana on the Joe Rogan podcast is well-known, there is limited concrete evidence regarding his alleged use of the substances mentioned in the report. The WSJ claims that Musk’s purported drug use led to former Tesla director Linda Johnson-Rice’s decision not to seek re-election in 2019, citing concerns about Musk’s behavior and drug consumption.

The report raises concerns about the potential impact on Musk’s leadership, especially given the strict drug policies of government agencies like NASA, which has contracts with SpaceX. Musk’s actions, such as smoking on Rogan’s podcast, jeopardized SpaceX’s relationship with NASA, as the agency prohibits drug use by its contractors. Any violation of SpaceX and Tesla company policies could raise serious concerns among board members.

As a publicly traded company, Tesla has a legal obligation to shareholders to prioritize profitability. Musk’s connection with Tesla’s identity is significant, making any decision to remove him from a leadership position a delicate matter. The report prompts speculation about whether Tesla board members and stockholders may consider such action.

Musk has faced challenges to his leadership before, notably with the SEC fine and temporary removal as chairman following the “funding secured” tweet. If the WSJ allegations prove true, Tesla’s board and stockholders could face a difficult decision, weighing Musk’s historical role in Tesla’s success against concerns raised by his actions. Musk responded to the WSJ report humorously on his platform X, suggesting he would take drugs if they improved productivity and downplaying the credibility of the WSJ compared to TMZ.

The situation remains fluid, and any developments will be monitored for potential impacts on Tesla, SpaceX, and Elon Musk’s leadership roles.
