Toronto Raptors forward Pascal Siakam will be sidelined for the team’s back-to-back matchup against the LA Clippers on Wednesday night due to back spasms, marking his first absence of the season.
Pascal Siakam
Despite having played all 37 games prior, the 29-year-old former champion and two-time All-Star finds himself on the injury list.
Chris Boucher, Thaddeus Young, and Jontay Porter are slated to see increased playing time in Siakam’s absence. While Siakam’s return date is not explicitly stated, it is anticipated to be on January 12.
In the previous game, Siakam showcased his impressive leadership for the Raptors, contributing 25 points, four rebounds, and three assists in 32 minutes of play. His on-ball defense and collaboration with rising star Scottie Barnes were evident throughout the match, with Barnes adding 26 points to the Raptors’ score. Despite their efforts, the Raptors suffered a close 132-131 defeat to the LA Lakers, led by Anthony Davis’s outstanding performance with 41 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists.
Siakam’s absence will require adjustments to the Raptors’ rotations and lineups, impacting both offensive and defensive contributions. With other key players like Jakob Poeltl and Otto Porter Jr. already sidelined due to injuries, the Raptors will likely turn to Gary Trent Jr. in the starting lineup, alongside Immanuel Quickley, Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett, and Thaddeus Young. This marks the first time Young is starting in place of the injured Poeltl this season.
Siakam’s notable season averages of 22 points on over 50% shooting, coupled with six rebounds and five assists, highlight his well-rounded impact on the court. His defensive prowess is evident in opponents shooting only 43% in the paint and under 40% from mid-range when guarded by him, emphasizing his significance as a wing/forward.
