Bay Area Witnesses Significant Surge in Gas Prices, Approaching $6 per Gallon” Gas prices in the Bay Area have experienced a substantial increase this week, nearly reaching $6 per gallon on average, as per the most recent data from AAA.

Prices in the three largest cities in the region surged on Wednesday compared to the previous day, with San Francisco seeing an average price increase of 14 cents, bringing it to $5.81 per gallon. San Jose witnessed an increase of 11 cents, with an average price of $5.69 per gallon, while Oakland’s prices went up by 9 cents, reaching $5.71 per gallon over the past 24 hours, according to AAA.

Interestingly, prices in the Bay Area are still below the state average, which, as of Wednesday morning, was $5.89, as per AAA data. The national average for gas prices currently stands at $3.83 per gallon.

Moreover, when compared to the same week the previous year, the average prices in these cities have slightly decreased. San Francisco’s  prices were at $6.09, San Jose’s at $5.96, and Oakland’s at $5.98.

Here’s a breakdown of average gas prices by county in the greater Bay Area region, listed from highest to lowest, according to AAA:

  1. San Mateo County: $5.82 per gallon
  2. Napa County: $5.81 per gallon
  3. Marin County: $5.80 per gallon
  4. San Francisco: $5.79 per gallon
  5. Sonoma County: $5.78 per gallon
  6. Monterey County: $5.75 per gallon
  7. Alameda County: $5.71 per gallon
  8. Contra Costa County: $5.71 per gallon
  9. Santa Cruz County: $5.71 per gallon
  10. Santa Clara County: $5.69 per gallon
  11. Solano County: $5.67 per gallon
  12. Lake County: $5.67 per gallon
  13. Mendocino County: $5.67 per gallon

In contrast, in Southern California, several counties have already surpassed the $6 mark in average gas prices, with prices ranging from $6.01 per gallon in Santa Barbara County to $6.10 per gallon in San Diego County and $6.16 per gallon in Los Angeles County.
