The Ford Ranger has a rich history dating back to 1958, and after an eight-year hiatus, it has made a comeback.

Despite being overshadowed by its illustrious stablemate, the F-150, which has led industry sales for 41 years, the Ranger is making a strong return. Last year, Ford sold over 900,000 trucks, with Texas emerging as the largest market. In comparison, the second-place Chevy Silverado sold just over 320,000 units.

The 2019 SuperCab 5-foot box Lariat, featuring a 126.8-inch wheelbase, is equipped with a powerful 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission. The turbocharged engine boasts advanced features like an intercooler, direct injection, and two independent variable cam shafts, delivering a maximum output of 270 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Ranger demonstrates impressive fuel efficiency, with estimated ratings of 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, resulting in a combined average of 23 mpg.

The Terrain Management System offers four settings: Snow/Grass/Gravel, Mud/Rut, Sand, and Normal, influencing throttle response, traction control, shift points, and steering feel. This system is applicable in both 4 High and 4 Low ranges.

Inside the Lariat cockpit, an 8-inch navigation screen takes center stage, known for its clarity and functionality. Ambient lighting enhances the visibility of the Dual 4.2-inch Productivity Screens, heated front bucket seats with leather trim, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Dual-zone auto climate control ensures a comfortable cabin environment.

The Ranger’s capabilities include hauling a best-in-class 1,860 pounds and towing up to 7,500 pounds when equipped with the $495 Trailer Tow Package. The vehicle rests on 17-inch Magnetic-Painted Aluminum Wheels.

A comprehensive LED lighting system, including daytime running lights, fog lamps, headlamps, and tail lights, is complemented by front tow hooks and rugged steel bumpers. Standard safety features include the Lane-Keeping System, Forward and Reverse Sensing System, and Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking.

The new Ranger excels in off-road performance, navigating steep hills and trail paths with ease while maintaining minimal road noise on highways. It combines toughness with easy maneuverability, handling well in crowded urban streets and fast-paced thoroughfares.

In 2011, Ford discontinued the Ranger globally, making the return of the new Ranger to North America eight years later a refreshing development.
