Mickey Guyton delivered a remarkable performance of a historic Christmas classic during the White House Tree Lighting this holiday season. The powerful singer-songwriter graced the stage in a dazzling gown to present Brenda Lee’s iconic late 1950s hit, “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree.”
Expressing her joy, Guyton shared a clip of the moment on Instagram, captioning it, “Christmas is such a fun time of year! I loved hosting the White House Tree Lighting as we sang the holiday songs we all know and love.”

Guyton, who also served as the host for the holiday event, was among a lineup of talented artists, including Darren Criss, Samara Joy, Ledisi, Reneé Rapp, St. Vincent, Joe Walsh, and Dionne Warwick. The ceremony was aired on Friday, December 15. The tradition of the National Christmas Tree Lighting dates back to its initiation by President Calvin Coolidge in 1923.
Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” not only reached No. 1 but also set a few notable records. At 79, Lee became the oldest woman to achieve a No. 1 hit, surpassing the previous records held by Cher with “Believe” at age 52 and Mariah Carey with “All I Want for Christmas Is You” at age 53. Additionally, Lee now holds the record for the longest time span between her first and most recent No. 1, as reported by Universal Music Group Nashville. Reflecting on the achievement, Lee stated, “The song came out when I was a young teenager, and now to know that it has resonated with multiple generations and continues to resonate – it is one of the best gifts I have ever received. Keep on Rockin’ and Merry Christmas!”
