Suspect tries stealing parked car during dangerous chase through the San Fernando Valley

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A suspect led police on a dangerous chase on surface streets and on freeways through the San Fernando Valley Friday night.

AIR7 HD was over the chase around 9:20 p.m., but Los Angeles police had started chasing the reported stolen Lexus a few minutes before that in Hollywood.

There were instances where the suspect would speed through surface streets, ignore red lights and drive into oncoming traffic.

In the Burbank area, the driver got out of the car and tried to steal a parked car before he gave up and got back into the Lexus.

The chase went through multiple freeways, including the 101, 5 and 210.

While on the 210 Freeway in the Sylmar area, the suspect drove through a construction zone before getting back onto the freeway.

The chase ended after the suspect hit a spike strip and he came to a stop on the 210 in the Sunland-Tujunga area around 10:10 p.m.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
