The Apple TV+ series, The Afterparty, is an exciting new show that follows a group of characters whose post-reunion party turns deadly and becomes a whodunit murder mystery. Along with the fun premise, the real selling point for the show is the terrific cast, featuring an ensemble of funny people.
Each of the main cast has proven themselves in various roles, from other huge series to some terrific movies. Audiences will likely recognize just about every one of these actors and be reminded of some terrific projects they were involved with before The Afterparty.
10 Dave Franco – The Disaster Artist
It is not much of a spoiler to say that Dave Franco’s Xavier is the poor partygoer who ends up dead as he is dispatched within the first couple of minutes of the show. Luckily, flashbacks allow audiences to spend more time with Xavier, the hotshot of the group who became a singer-actor after high school.
Franco has appeared in a number of notable projects, but his most famous turn was alongside his brother James in The Disaster Artist. Franco plays an aspiring actor who befriends the eccentric Tommy Wiseau as he seeks to make The Room, widely regarded as one of the worst movies of all time.
9 John Early – Search Party
As the murder investigation kicks off, one of the central cops on the case is Detective Culp, played by John Early. He does not appear to be the most talented detective and is more distracted by the fact that he is a big fan of Xavier, the victim in question.
Interestingly enough, Early previously starred in another comedy that revolves around a deadly mystery. Search Party follows a group of friends who become tangled up in finding their missing former classmate, leading to some unexpected consequences.
8 Tiya Sircar – The Good Place
Tiya Sircar plays one half of the best friend duo known as “the Jennifers.” Not only do these friends share the same first name and run the high school reunion together, but they are both pregnant at the same time and have little patience for anyone else.
Sircar was a part of another wonderful television cast in The Good Place. She played Vicky, an ambitious demon with plans to take over the running of the “Bad Place” operations and served as an antagonist to the main characters for much of the series.
7 Jamie Demetriou – Fleabag
Jamie Demetriou has a hilarious standout role in The Afterparty as Walt. Though he apparently went to high school with all the main characters, no one can seem to remember Walt and he awkwardly spends most of his time trying to be a part of the team.
Demetriou first caught people’s attention with his recurring role on the highly acclaimed series Fleabag. He once again played quite an awkward and somewhat obnoxious character as a hopeful romantic interest who is hilariously credited as Bus Rodent.
6 Ilana Glazer – Broad City
Ilana Glazer is another wonderful addition to the ensemble as Chelsea. Though she was the class president back in the day, when Chelsea arrives at the reunion, she is seen by her former classmates as a trainwreck. It is also clear that she has one or two intriguing secrets to hide.
Glazer was the co-creator and co-star of the hilarious comedy series Broad City alongside her comedy partner Abbi Jacobson. The show was a wild and often surreal look at these best friends as they navigate their misadventures in New York City as they are joined by memorable guest stars.
5 Zoe Chao – Strangers
Zoe Chao appropriately plays a character named Zoe who is very central to the main plot. She is the vice-principal of her old school and finds herself as the romantic interest for several of the characters. She herself seems to be a recent divorcee who is just looking for a fun night out.
Zoe Chao headlined her own show with the underrated comedy-drama Strangers. She plays a woman at a crossroads in life who rents out her room to a variety of short-term tenants while trying to figure her own life out.
4 Ike Barinholtz – Blockers
In The Afterparty, Ike Barinholtz fills the role of Zoe’s ex-husband Brett. He is first seen as an aggressive, selfish, and obnoxious man who is overly possessive of Zoe. However, as more of his story is revealed, he shows a softer side that makes him not seem as bad.
Barinholtz has popped up in a number of comedy projects over the years, but he got his first major starring role alongside John Cena and Leslie Mann in the underrated comedy Blockers. The trio play a group of parents attempting to prevent their daughters from having sex on their prom night.
3 Ben Schwartz – Parks And Recreation
Ben Schwartz is a lively addition to any cast and he once again steals many scenes as Yasper in The Afterparty. Though he is a high-energy and somewhat in-your-face aspiring musician, Yasper is also a great friend and someone who is not afraid to follow his dreams.
Schwartz’s biggest role is likely as the voice of the titular hero in Sonic the Hedgehog, however, audiences likely know him best as Jean-Ralphio in Parks and Recreation. In one of the show’s best recurring roles, Jean-Ralphio is a wannabe player who pops up with various new clueless ventures.
2 Sam Richardson – Werewolves Within
As Aniq, Sam Richardson is very much at the center of the show as the sympathetic and sweet guy looking for a second chance with the girl who got away. But when Aniq finds himself as the prime suspect of the murder, he realizes he has to crack it himself to clear his name.
Richardson has stolen the show in a number of comedic supporting roles, but he recently showed off his leading man chops in Werewolves Within. This is another comedic murder mystery story about a small community that appears to have a werewolf among them. Richardson plays the town’s new sheriff who is tasked with solving the bizarre case.
1 Tiffany Haddish – Girls Trip
Leading off the murder investigation at the center of the story is the determined Detective Danner, played by Tiffany Haddish. She takes control of the investigation against the orders of her boss and uses her own unique approach as she hears the various stories from that night.
Haddish has become a breakout star in recent years with her standup career and various high-profile movies roles. But her big break game with her scene-stealing role in the comedy Girls Trip where she played the wildest member of a group of friends letting loose on vacation.
