The City of Prescott, in collaboration with their contractor Southwest Slurry Seal, is currently engaged in the FY24 Micro Seal Preservation Project..
Slurry Seal
This project involves various road maintenance activities such as micro milling (removing a thin layer of existing pavement) and crack sealing (filling existing cracks with sealant). These operations are scheduled for completion by the week of April 1.
Starting from the week of April 8, the contractor will initiate the application of a micro seal treatment, designed to prolong the life of asphalt pavement, along Willow Creek Road, from Green Lane/Pulliam Drive to just south of Iron Springs Road/Whipple Street, encompassing independent turn lanes.
The project’s length will be divided into two halves at Gail Gardner Way. Micro seal work will commence and conclude on the northern half before proceeding to the southern half. Crews will operate from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the northbound lanes and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the southbound lanes, ensuring one lane of traffic remains open in each direction. However, motorists should expect temporary driveway closures, lane restrictions, reduced speeds, loud noise, and flagging operations within the work zones.
Traffic control measures will be implemented, closing one lane of traffic for the entire project’s duration. As the micro seal treatment dries, sections of traffic control will be gradually removed, which may take up to three hours. Sand will be applied to roadway surfaces in front of business driveways shortly after treatment application to facilitate access during emergencies.
This project’s progress is contingent upon weather conditions and may be subject to change. Motorists are advised to anticipate delays and allocate extra travel time through the project corridor.
The City is committed to keeping the public, businesses, and residents informed about potential construction impacts throughout the project’s duration. Upon completion, projected by the end of May 2024, this endeavor will enhance pavement longevity and road quality for Prescott motorists.
Detailed notification door hangers will be distributed to those directly impacted before micro seal operations commence in specific areas. These notifications will include pertinent information regarding access, work hours, and traffic impacts associated with these operations.
